Partey return date pencilled in as Arsenal midfielder continues recovery

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is taking part in daily personal training sessions as he continues his recovery from injury, football.london understands.

The Ghana international has been sidelined with a thigh injury sustained during last month’s 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta recently revealed that Partey’s situation is “progressing” but has refused to rule out that a return could be on the cards before the season ends.

football.london understands that Partey is taking part in individual training sessions each day with the target of being back in the first team squad within the “next few weeks”.

A source told football.london that the current best case scenario for Partey would be the 28-year-old returning for the final game of the season against Everton on May 22. However, Arsenal’s medical staff are keen not to rush the midfielder back and complicate his recovery.

“The stats are there and they are unquestionable,” said Arteta. “The win rate when Thomas is there is higher. It is something that is not good for us because in the last two seasons he has not been there as much as we want.

“He has been out injured and sometimes he pushes too far in order to play and he gets injured again. He is willing to help again to play this season.

“We don’t know if that is going to be possible, but for sure it won’t be because of lack of intention from him.”

Meanwhile, Eddie Nketiah is set to declare his international allegiance to Ghana after being granted a Ghanaian passport.

Nketiah, 22, is a former England Under-21 international but has been persuaded to change country along with Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi.
