What do you get if you cross an iconic show about powerhouse women navigating relationships with a series about kickass lawyers? Well, as it turns out, you get Partner Track, Netflix’s brand new show that follows Ingrid Yun, an idealistic young lawyer who struggles with her moral compass and her passions as she fights to climb the partner track at an elite New York City law firm. Basically, perfect viewing.
Dubbed a hybrid of Sex and the City and Suits, the series will be available to stream on Netflix from 26 August, and the enticing new trailer gives us a bit more insight into what to expect. The show looks set to be a blend of comedy, topical issues including racism and privilege and a healthy dose of that Rachel/Ross sort of romance (basically, will they end up together or won’t they?).
Here’s everything you need to know about Partner Track….
What is Partner Track about?
So the TV series is based on the highly-acclaimed novel by the same name, written by American novelist Helen Wan, and focuses on the highs, lows, loves and losses of lawyer Ingrid Yun (played by Arden Cho). Wan’s website describes the book as being about “a woman of colour learning to navigate the alien culture at a powerful global law firm. It’s about chasing ambition while attempting to live authentically at work and remaining true to ourselves and our values.”
Ingrid is a first-generation Korean American woman and the first lawyer in her family, but – as we learned from Legally Blonde – the route to a successful legal career is daily a smooth one.
As the synopsis reads: “With the support of her friends, she battles through workplace challenges to break through the glass ceiling on her path to become partner. But will her drive and ambition leave room for love?”
Who will star in Partner Track?
As well as Cho in the role of badass protagonist Ingrid Yun, the roster also includes Bradley Gibson (Powerbook III: Ghost), Alexandra Turshen (Ray Donovan), Nolan Gerard Funk (The Flight Attendant), Dominic Sherwood (Penny Dreadful: The City Of Angels), Rob Heaps (Good Girls) and Matthew Rauch (Terminal List) starring in the series.
