AN EASYJET customer has gone viral after his bizarre attempt to avoid paying extra for his bags – by smashing his suitcase to pieces in a bid to fit in the luggage sizer.

Travellers at Edinburgh Airport watched on in disbelief as the man took matters into his own hands – and feet – to avoid dipping into his wallet for extra fees.

In a clip shared by TikTok user ‘fxny_stn’, he can be seen stamping on the wheels of his bag to remove them, before trying to stuff it into the carry on box.

When the suitcase was still too large, he hacked at the handles, twisting them until they came off.

Other travellers at the gate watched in shock as the punter dismembered his suitcase to fit the airline’s desired dimensions.

Some of his audience laughed at the drastic measures taken by the passenger, and when his baggage was eventually downsized, he received a round of applause.

Viewers on social media took to the comment section to show support for the man.

One said: “Proper job’s worth man. Just let him on. It was a couple inches of outer parts.”

Another added: “For all that effort he was putting in, they should have just let the poor guy go!”

Someone else shared: “It’s probably more expensive to check it in than to damage the bag. These airlines are thieves and they get away with it. The employees’ uprightness!”

Like many airlines, easyJet charges excess fees for cabin luggage that does not fit into the sizer for carry-on bags.

According to their website, bags that do not fit into the size of 45x36x20cm must be loaded into the hold at a charge of £40.

Any bags that are above 56x45x25cm are considered “oversized” and are liable for a larger charge of £48 in order to be loaded onto the plane.
