Ben Duckett does not want to miss another minute of his England career after putting his long hiatus firmly behind him this winter.
Duckett played four Tests and three one-dayers in Bangladesh and India in 2016, then only a solitary T20 international in 2019 before getting another chance last year.
The 28-year-old has now secured a spot in both white-ball squads and, with an Ashes series on the horizon, heads into tomorrow’s series with New Zealand in possession of a Test opener’s slot.
‘My sole focus is playing for England. I won’t be missing out,’ said Duckett, who sacrificed a T20 event in the UAE to concentrate on his country. ‘Three or four years down the line, who knows?
‘But right now it’s about playing as much cricket as I can for England.
‘I pulled out of a T20 comp to give myself some time to refresh, so I’ve made decisions to give England everything. This is my priority and I’ll try to take every chance I get.
‘I genuinely wasn’t expecting even 12 months ago to be playing all three formats. I guess that’s credit for the hard work I’ve put in over the last few years.’
