Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has scored just three goals in all competitions this season, and was not part of the United squad for Saturday’s meeting with Aston Villa
Footage of Marcus Rashford struggling at Manchester United ‘shouldn’t be shown’ by Sky Sports, according to Paul Merson.
The England international, 24, has been in disappointing form for the Red Devils this term and his display in the FA Cup win over Aston Villa on Monday night led to headlines and speculation over his long-term future.
United were over-dependent on Rashford last term, with the player making 57 appearances in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
He was then included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020 – despite concerns over his fitness – and struggled to make any real impact.
Rashford underwent surgery on his shoulder complaint in the summer and, after missing pre-season, has struggled since making his competitive return in October, scoring just twice in the Premier League.

Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday panel went over Rashford’s poor form on Saturday afternoon, showing clips of the player during the discussion.
“It’s all confidence,” claims Merson. “All of a sudden when the confidence goes, you go into your shell and working becomes harder.
“The kid, that’s the first time he’s had a lack of confidence in his whole career. It’s been an absolute breeze [for Rashford]. He’s come through and been great.
“The poor kid, his confidence has gone. Watch that then, it’s wrong really. We shouldn’t be showing that.”
Former Tottenham ace Michael Dawson then asked: “He looks broken, doesn’t he Merse? He looks like he needs an arm around him.”
Merson simply replied “exactly” as the debate rumbled on.
United manager Ralf Rangnick is confident Rashford will find his form again during the coming weeks.
“As a striker we all know that it’s all about playing well scoring goals and getting assists,” said the German ahead of his team’s Premier League game against Aston Villa on Saturday.
“If that does not happen over a period of time, it is sometimes not easy. But he is trying to give his very best and he does show that in training.
“There have been a couple of training sessions over the past few weeks when he has performed at the highest level and that is why I have always given him the chance to play again.
“As long as he does that, he will always make my list to be involved within the starting XI.
“Of course, it’s about showing that on a regular basis and continuously playing at a high level. For him though, like anyone else, there is still room for improvement.”
Analysing Rashford’s performance against Villa in the FA Cup last Monday, Rangnick added: “I think in the first 20 minutes of the game against Aston Villa, he was good.
“He was on fire and constantly involved. But then after that, he didn’t play on the same kind of energetic level that he did in the first half-hour.
“Of course we need to speak about that because he cannot do that regularly.
“Does he need a helping hand? What does it take? But I don’t see any of the players who do not care about the club or do not want to perform at the very highest level.”
However, Rashford was not included in United’s squad for the Premier League meeting with Villa on Saturday night.
