Paul O’Grady has been seen as joyful in the latest episode of Paul O’Grady: For The Love Of Dogs.

Fans watching the new series were overcome with emotion just minutes into last night’s episode (Thursday, April 13). Knowing the series would be the last and with Paul’s death so fresh in viewers’ minds, it’s no surprise they were moved to tears as the episode started.

The ITV programme follows O’Grady around Battersea Dogs & Cats Home where he meets gorgeous little four-legged friends who are in need of medical treatment, training and ultimately new homes.

The episode opened with a voiceover by O’Grady, saying: “We’re back, the kennels are chock-a-block.

“The staff and me are worked off our feet, looking after the latest waifs and strays to come through the doors.”

The episode was an emotional one as O’Grady shared the heartbreaking stories beind a number of dogs at the shelter in need of a loving home.

Peggy, a two-year-old giant Newfoundland who was in need of life-changing surgery on her back legs, was one of the dogs that featured in the episode.

After learning about the surgery Peggy required, an ever-cheerful O’Grady said: “It’s a long road ahead for Peggy, but I’m going to be here, for moral support and loads of cuddles.”

Paul then introduced Grace, a Staffordshire bull terrier and Labrador cross who has a “unique obsession” with water and kept flooding her kennel as a result.

Having already rehomed five dogs from Battersea, Paul admitted that “over the 11 years I’ve been here, I’ve fallen head over heels quite a few times” before adding “so I’m definitely not taking any more”.

O’Grady helped Grace channel her obsession with water into a more positive form.

The third dog Paul met was eight-year-old bichon frise Katie who was taken the the centre afterbeing found wandering around in a woodland.

After hearing their stories and following their treatment the episode ended on a high with news that Peggy and Gracehad both been rehomed by loving families.

In a touching tribute to Paul the programme ended with a picture of O’Grady and his sausage.
