Paul Pogba wants to renew his contract with Manchester United but is demanding that he overtakes Cristiano Ronaldo to become the Premier League’s highest-paid player, according to reports in France.

Pogba’s current contract with United expires at the end of the season and the midfielder will be free to negotiate with teams outside of the Premier League from January.

United have yet to reach an agreement over a new deal with the World Cup winner, and it’s understood that the club’s hierarchy are ready to lose him on a free transfer next summer and are already looking to sign a replacement.

L’Equipe reports that Pogba ‘has made no secret’ of his desire to extend his stay with United.

However, Pogba’s is reportedly ‘clear’ with his demand that he is made the highest-paid player at the club and in the division.

Ronaldo is currently the top earner following his return to Old Trafford in the summer as the 36-year-old signed a £480,000-a-week deal with United.

Pogba, meanwhile, is understood to be on a contract worth £290,000 a week.

Pogba’s hopes of helping United improve their current situation have been dealt a blow this week after he was ruled out for up to 10 weeks due to a thigh injury.

The midfielder pulled up during a shooting session with France’s national team and subsequently withdrew from the squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Finland.

Pogba is now set to miss United’s busy winter schedule, which includes Premier League matches against Chelsea and Arsenal.
