Paul rival details damning theory behind YouTuber’s unbeaten streak

Jake Paul’s fierce rival Hasim Rahman Jr has claimed that the YouTube star ‘doesn’t want fair fights’. Rahman Jr was supposed to face Paul in a cruiserweight bout on August 6, but the fight was pulled after a disagreement over the proposed weight.

The pair had agreed to meet each other at 200lb with Rahman Jr – who has operated at heavyweight for his entire boxing career – unable to weigh more than 216lb during a second weigh-in on the morning of the fight. A week prior, Rahman Jr was recorded at 215lb during a weight check carried out by the New York State Athletic Commission.

As a result, the regulatory body declared that they would not sanction the fight below 205lb which was accepted by Paul. Rahman Jr’s team then countered by claiming that they would compete no lower than 215lb, prompting Paul’s promotional outfit, Most Valuable Promotions, to cancel the entire event.

Rahman Jr followed this up by inviting assembled media to an unofficial weigh-in at his gym where he missed the 205lb limit.

“I don’t think he’s going to grow [courage] overnight. His brother’s been talking so maybe you’ll see me and Logan before you see me and Jake,” Rahman said.

He added: “Jake, what he’s done, it has no reflection on his boxing skills. It has a reflection on his media persona… He’s using boxing, using and abusing. He’s not out here actually making a difference in the sport as far as bringing a new light to influencer boxing.”

Paul has since gone on to beat former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva to improve his professional boxing record to 6-0. He is yet to announce his next opponent although Tommy Fury and Nate Diaz are believed to be in contention.

Rahman Jr, meanwhile, faces MMA legend, Vitor Belfort, on November 19 in Austin, Texas at the Moody Center in the main event of Misfits Boxing 3.
