MANILA, Philippines — Eric Camson attributed his career-high 30 points to the improving chemistry of Terrafirma Dyip after earning an elusive two-game winning streak in the PBA on Tour.
The 33-year-old big man shot 4-of-5 from deep to lead Terrafirma’s 107-102 victory over Meralco in the preseason tournament on Sunday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Camson deflected his stellar game to Juami Tiongson and the Dyip for moving the ball well.
“We played as a team and for the past wins. We felt really felt the brotherhood inside the court because we help each other and share the ball,” said the PBA veteran, who also tallied nine rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes of action in Filipino.
“We all have playing time and coach John has been rotating us well and our game plan has been working so we’re playing well, especially for me I got an opportunity to show my talent.”
The Adamson standout said their chemistry has been improving this preseason, rising to a 3-3 record.
“Amoy na namin ang isa’t isa (we know each other’s tendencies). We don’t think individually. We all know our time will come. If it’s the other players’ time to share, we support each other,” he said.
Camson, who was averaging 9.0 points and 6.0 rebounds before this game, wanted to prove that Terrafirma is not just about Tiongson, who had 21 points, six assists, and four steals, as others, like him, can step up, too.
“Juami is our main gunner. But for me, I have to be ready because if Juami struggles to score, someone has to step up because he has been carrying our team.”
Terrafirma coach lauded his role players, who have been supporting Tiongson in the past games, as JP Calvo, Isaac Go, and Javi Gomez de Liano also stepped up, besides Camson’s career night.
Camson, who put on the finishing touches in the fourth quarter against the Bolts, wants the Dyip to make the most of the preseason as they seek to establish a winning attitude before the regular season.
“Our main goal is to build our winning attitude because most of our games in the (previous season) we’re already there but we fell short during the end game. We’re developing our composure in the fourth quarter, we have to win or at least give ourselves a chance to win,” he said in Filipino.
