MANILA, Philippines–Barangay Ginebra regained its bearings just in time to foil Terrafirma, 106-82, Wednesday in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings used an 18-1 run to close the third period and then kept their hands welded on the steering wheel rest of the way to rejoin 6-1 San Miguel Beer at the top of the heap.
Japeth Aguilar was solid once again, putting up a well-rounded outing of 22 points and six rebounds that went with a career-tying seven blocks.
Christian Standhardinger finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists as the Gin Kings brace for a titanic showdown against defending champion TNT this Sunday.
“Coming into this game, the mindset was to be better from the last game in preparation for our next games. We were able to adjust in the second and sustained our defense, really executing on offense,” said Aguilar.
Juami Tiongson had 24 points, six rebounds and four assists as Andreas Cahilig and Joseph Gabayni chipped in 14 each for Terrafirma which stayed winless in seven meetings.
“The win today will serve as a wake-up call,” said acting head coach Richard del Rosario.
