MANILA, Philippines—Terrafirma’s Kevin Ferrer successfully underwent surgery on his torn Achilles tendon on Thursday, a day after he suffered the injury in a preseason game against TNT, according to a TV report.
Ferrer had to be wheeled out of Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on a stretcher with 16 seconds left in the second quarter of the Dyip’s 104-92 win over the Tropang Giga in PBA On Tour on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old Ferrer had been initially deemed out for 10-12 months but Terrafirma’s physical therapist Raymund Jose said the former University of Santo Tomas ace could return to action in six to eight months.
Ferrer tallied seven points and three rebounds in 19 minutes prior to the injury.
The 6-foot-4 forward, who was traded to Terrafirma from NorthPort last January, was averaging 9.5 points and 4 rebounds for the Dyip in the preseason.
Terrafirma absorbed a 121-95 beating at the hands of Rain or Shine on Sunday in Antipolo.
