MANILA, Philippines–NLEX released veteran JR Quinahan on Saturday after taking part in an unsanctioned exhibition game that ended up with him figuring in a brawl against a foreign team in Cebu two weeks ago.

The Road Warriors said they have terminated the remainder of Quinahan’s contract not only for his involvement in the incident that occurred in his home province, but also for appearing in multiple games known as “Ligang Labas” without the team’s permission.

“Following a thorough investigation, it was found that Quinahan had committed several infractions of his Uniform Players’ Contract, including, among others, playing in unsanctioned games without seeking clearance from NLEX management and the Philippine Basketball Association,” NLEX said in a statement.

The PBA had earlier fined Quinahan P50,000 after being one of 10 players punished for taking part in similar games.

But Quinahan stands to lose more since his contract, sources said, was supposed to run until December and is worth the maximum salary of P420,000 per month.

NLEX also said that Quinahan is also free to sign for any PBA team.

Quinahan slugged it out with a foreign player during the third quarter of the exhibition that occurred in the Cebu town of Carmen.

Also part of the game were Rain or Shine’s Beau Belga, who threw the ball at the same player, Magnolia’s Jio Jalalon and Robert Bolick, whose contract with NorthPort expired recently.
