Two Delhi boys led as Shikhar Dhawan led the Punjab Kings while Nitish Rana was captaining the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Nitish Rana won the toss and chose to bowl first. Punjab Kings got off to a flying start courtesy of Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh. Sri Lankan batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa (50 off 32 balls) was the star with the bat for Punjab while Dhawan (40 off 20 balls) and Sam Curran (26* off 17 balls) played decent knocks to take them to 191/5 at the end of their full quota of overs.
KKR were lacklustre with the ball and they started poorly with the bat as well. Mandeep Singh, Anukul Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz all departed early as the Knights were reeling at 29/3 at one stage.
KKR’s ship was steered by Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer, but the former got out of the bowling of Punjab’s debutant boy Sikandar Raza. Andre Russell (35 off 19 balls) played a stormy knock but his wicket put KKR in a further slump.
Rain played spoilsport as the game was stopped after the 16th over, when KKR were 146/7. The downpour continued and the match was finally decided via the DLS method as KKR fell short of 7 runs at that stage.
