Peel’s Ella Roberts makes All-Australian list

Peel’s Ella Roberts makes All-Australian list

Peel Thunder’s Ella Roberts has reached new heights in her amateur footy career, being named in the 2022 NAB AFLW National Championships U18 All-Australian team.

The 17 year-old is one of just two players from Western Australia in the team, with South Fremantle’s Lauren Wakfer also making the cut.

It follows their impressive performances in this year’s national championships, which took place across the country over the past month.

The national championships are the highest level of State and Territory representative football, and part of the AFL’s Talent Pathways Program.

A panel of AFL personnel selected the All-Australian team. Roberts was named one of 18 players on the field, alongside six interchange players.

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan, who was part of the selection panel, said all players earnt their spot.

“The players selected represent the best young footballers in the country and highlight the quality of talent coming through the national pathways programs,” Mr Sheehan said.

“We look forward to watching the development of this extremely talented group, many of whom will make the progression into the NAB AFLW competition for the upcoming season.”

South Australia dominated selections, with eight players named in the team, after going through the championships undefeated.

Five of those eight players, including Hannah Ewing and Shineah Goody, are eligible for this year’s AFLW draft.

Their coach Tim Weatherald was also recognised, named All-Australian coach, with Vic Metro coach Jacara Egan named assistant coach.

Ella and Cynthia Roberts are now two-time Under-18 All-Australians, having also been recognised last year.

Peel Thunder WAFLW coach Steve Markham said he’s “super proud” of Roberts being selected once again.

“She is the complete package with a huge appetite to improve herself and works as hard as anyone on the training track,” he said.

“Most importantly she’s humble and appreciative of everyone’s help and support, which is why I have no doubt she’ll be a No.1 draft pick.”
