It has been an eventful few weeks for New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson.
Not only has Williamson’s name been mentioned in trade rumors, but he has also had to contend with an adult film star calling him out on social media and posting intimate details of their apparent relationship.
Over the weekend, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that there is “no relationship” between Williamson and the Pelicans organization, and another report from SNYTV’s Ian Begley also doesn’t sound promising for the former No. 1 overall pick’s future in New Orleans.
“High-ranking members of the organization have been dismayed by recent off-court developments around Williamson, as other outlets have noted,” Begley wrote. “The organization recently fired assistant coach Teresa Weatherspoon, a Naismith Hall of Famer, who was instrumental in the development of several young Pelicans, including Williamson. Those reading the tea leaves may surmise that Weatherspoon’s firing was related to the team’s issues with Williamson.”

If Williamson was able to perform up to his capabilities on the court, perhaps these off-court matters would not be such a big deal.
However, the 22-year-old forward has appeared in only 114 games in four NBA seasons due to injuries. He missed the entire 2021-22 campaign and appeared in just 29 contests this past season.
As of now, Zion remains a member of the Pelicans, but we’ll see if that changes in the coming days and weeks.
