The growing festival brand, which also had a scaled-down version travel to Arizona and Colorado, made its debut at Ventura Fairgrounds with a single-day event back in March with Pennywise, Suicidal Tendencies, The Bouncing Souls, Fear, Manic Hispanic and others.

Cameron Collins of Brew Ha Ha Productions said Pennywise was the very first band he approached with the festival concept and they’ve been supportive of his vision and played the inaugural festival in Silverado and the Ventura edition, as well as the Colorado and Arizona shows.

“Punk in the Park is pretty much my favorite show to play right now in the world,” Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge said during an interview backstage at Punk in the Park Ventura. “It’s a real punk rock show and there’s not a lot of festivals out there that are punk rock anymore. So that, combined with the fact that it’s a bunch of bands we love playing with — our friends, our peers and our mentors — it’s a great time.”

Dragge said Pennywise was willing to take a chance on working with Collins and Brew Ha Ha Productions general manger Josh Stolo to headline the first Punk in the Park Festival because the band saw the their passion and appreciated their authenticity.

“Cameron and Josh, they’re actually punk rock fans,” he said. “We wanted to do this and help them get this thing started because we thought it was something cool and it seems to be doing pretty awesome now and everyone wants to be a part of it.”
