The first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has been available on Disney+ for less than a week, and we’re already obsessed with the superhero spin-off.
For starters, it’s great to see Tatiana Maslany – who memorably played every main character in Orphan Black – step into a major Marvel franchise, alongside the likes of Mark Ruffalo and Jameela Jamil.
In She-Hulk, Tatiana plays Jennifer Walters, a high-flying attorney who inadvertently transforms into a hulk following an accidental blood transfusion from her cousin, the big Bruce Banner, AKA the original hulk. And much to his surprise, Jennifer can transform into her hulk self without spiralling into an uncontrollable rage.
There’s one scene in particular where Jennifer explains to Bruce how she can control her anger. She says, “I’m great at controlling my anger. I do it all the time: When I’m catcalled in the street; when incompetent men explain my own area of expertise to me.
“I do it pretty much every day because if I don’t, I will get called emotional, or difficult, or might just literally get murdered. So I’m an expert at controlling my anger because I do it infinitely more than you.”
Say it louder for the people at the back, Jen.
Many fans have taken to social media to share their appreciation of the scene, with one tweeting, “#shehulk might genuinely be the first time some young men hear a woman speak candidly about experiences like this. It might not seem like it but that’s hugely important.”
Another person wrote, “The scene where Jen explains how she’s able to control her anger was easily my favorite moment of this episode. As a man it’s something I didn’t think about. Also makes me appreciate how this show was was written & directed by women. #SheHulk [sic].”
