People who think they are attractive appear less likely than others to put on a mask, according to a study.

Researchers with Frontiers in Psychology asked 1,030 people to “self-evaluate their facial appearance,” and say how likely they were to wear masks.

“Individuals with high self-perceived attractiveness were less willing to wear a mask,” because they thought masks hid their good looks, according to the study in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, published in January, according to CNBC.

A respondent was quoted as looking forward to the day he could ditch the mask and show off his face, while another expressed dread about the “day when mask mandates will come to an end.”

Participants were also asked to consider if location impacted their willingness to mask, and were given scenarios like walking their dog or going to a job interview.

Those who considered themselves really attractive were a lot more likely than others to skip wearing a mask for a job interview, according to CNBC.

“Our findings suggest that mask-wearing can shift from being a self-protection measure during the COVID-19 pandemic to a self-presentation tactic in the post-pandemic era,” the study authors wrote.
