Get ready to do the time warp again as cult rock‘n’roll musical The Rocky Horror Show’s 50th anniversary Australian tour is headed to Crown Theatre Perth from August 6.
It is a case of ‘damn it, Janet’ for those hoping to have seen Jason Donovan as Frank N Furter and Myf Warhurst as Narrator, both being replaced respectively for the Perth season by three-time Olivier Award winning performer David Bedella and Nicholas Hammond, known for his role as Friedrich von Trapp in film, The Sound of Music.
They join principal cast members Stellar Perry as Magenta, Ellis Dolan as Eddie/Dr Scott, Darcey Eagle as Columbia, Ethan Jones as Brad, Deirdre Khoo as Janet, Loredo Malcolm as Rocky and Henry Rollo as Riff Raff.
Bedella says he is thrilled to be returning to Australia after so many years to perform as the sweet transvestite again, having worn the character’s fishnets and heels on London’s West End, a national tour and 2015 live broadcast from the Playhouse Theatre.
“This 50th anniversary production promises to be the best yet and I’m gonna do my part to see that it is,” Bedella declares.
“I hope everyone will come along to help us celebrate a show that has undeniably become the greatest cult sensation musical theatre has ever seen and has meant so much to so many for 50 years.”
