Perth MAFS star opens up about having three miscarriages

Perth influencer and former Married At First Sight star Michelle Marsh has spoken out about experiencing three miscarriages within 13 months — a devastating loss no expecting mother wants to endure, let alone more than once.

The 38-year-old, who gained a hefty social media following after she and twin Sharon appeared in the fourth season of MAFS in 2017, wants to share her story in the hope of helping other women on a similar journey.

Last year, Marsh and her partner at the time wanted to bring a new life into the world but tragedy struck.

“We had decided to try for a baby, falling pregnant was easy actually, it was keeping it (that was hard). We were advised to wait one to two months before trying again, so while three miscarries seem a lot in 13 months, it’s certainly not uncommon for couples trying, which I have grown to understand now,” she said.

“Losing a baby makes you question yourself in so many ways. What did I do wrong? What’s wrong with me? Will I ever have a family?

“There’s guilt, sadness, disappointment but mostly the not knowing why.”

Miscarriages occur in one in four pregnancies and while Marsh and her partner are no longer together, she still hopes to raise a family one day.

She shared her story in the hope it would resonate with other women and let them know they are not alone during such a difficult time.

“I think we generally only want to talk about the good, happy and positive, naturally. But going through this experience, it opened my eyes up to the high number of women going through the exact same thing as me,” she said.

Marsh said women deserve the utmost respect, forced to put on “brave fronts while facing adversity”.

“It’s a very emotional journey — the highs the lows, the planning, the pain, the excitement then the disappointment, it’s incredibly disruptive on one’s life and heartbreaking,” she said.

“Then we have to get up, go to work, like we are made from stone.. I have so much respect for women — the brave fronts we put on whilst facing adversity.

“That sometimes it’s not that anything is wrong , it’s that things have maybe not quite ‘aligned’ this time. See your specialist straight away to give you peace of mind and have hope. And don’t be scared to talk about it, more people will relate than you realise.”

For now Marsh is enjoying becoming an aunty again to her sister’s baby Jordan.

“I love it! There’s so much more laughter and smiles with him around. Having Jordan actually forces you to stop and take things in whilst you introduce him to the world; a blessing for the whole family,” she said.

Amongst juggling her time being a fun aunty, Marsh is an ambassador for charity DECAID, an event in September that raised money for the Starlight Foundation, and also manages a cleaning business in the western suburbs.

Touching on her time in front of the camera for MAFS, Marsh she didn’t miss anything about the show other than her fellow participants.

“We still keep in touch but it’s few and far between catch ups these days, we need a reunion,” she said.

However, before her “wild, spontaneous and adventurous” time on MAFS, she was living it up in London with the likes of English singer Mick Jagger.

“Before MAFS, I was living in London with my partner at the time, we got invited to Jerry Hall’s birthday at her Richmond home, there we met Bob Geldolf and Mick Jagger — this was a small gathering of family and friends, about 25 people, it was surreal!”

This accidental meeting soon turned into regular hangouts with the UK star and his kids.

But Marsh is more at home in Perth with our perfect sunsets and away from the showbiz.
