Iconic Perth structures basked in a pink glow on Tuesday night to honour the memory of Olivia Newton-John who lost her 30-year battle with breast cancer and left the world in mourning.
Aged 73-years-old, Australia’s sweetheart passed away peacefully at her ranch in Southern California surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday.
Tributes flowed from fellow stars and friends who were heartbroken to hear news of her death.
As the globe continues to grieve the Australian icon, Perth’s Optus Stadium and Matagarup Bridge turned pink in honour of Newton-John.
WA Premier Mark McGowan offered his support to Newton-John’s family and all those she graciously blessed with her presence.
“Tonight, Optus Stadium and Matagarup Bridge are lit up in honour of an Australian icon and legend, Olivia Newton-John,” he said in a Facebook post.
“From the stage to the screen, Olivia Newton-John was star. She lit up our screens in Grease and was a beloved voice on radios right across the world.”
“But it was her work away from the limelight, raising money and awareness for the fight against cancer, that truly touched so many.”
“On behalf of all Western Australians, our thoughts are with Olivia’s family, friends, and all those who knew her.”
Many had known her for years, such as her collaborators on Grease, the movie that made her an icon.
She founded the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Victoria allowing cancer patients access to world-leading treatment and care.
Newton-John is survived by husband John Easterling and only daughter Chloe Lattanzi.
