That double technical foul in the first half. Kevon Looney’s sensational performance in the second. Steph Curry and Jordan Poole’s fourth quarter takeovers and of course, Otto Porter’s go-ahead 3-pointer to kick off that fourth quarter.
Our photographers captured those moments and more Friday night during Golden State’s 126-117 comeback win over the Dallas Mavericks.
The first half may have been littered with ugly turnovers for the Warriors, which put Golden State in a 19-point hole. But when the final buzzer sounded, Friday’s win marked the Warriors’ third-largest comeback playoff victory in the last 20 years.
And as Warriors beat writer Madeline Kenney reported, by the game’s end, the gold-clad crowd at Chase Center was chanting “M-V-P” for Looney, who played harder than arguably any player on the court. He scored 11 of his career-high 21 points in the third quarter to help the Warriors come back from the massive first half deficit. He punctuated the run with a dunk at the buzzer to end the quarter that pulled the Warriors within two points.
Looney also grabbed eight of his 12 rebounds in the second half. Friday’s game marked his second career postseason double-double and first during this year’s playoffs.
“Loon was just brilliant,” coach Steve Kerr said after the win. “I thought a lot of guys were… great team effort, but it was really all about getting things under control and getting more poised out there.”
