Picture of 7-1 defeat removed from Rangers website amid fan backlash

Rangers have removed a souvenir picture of their 7-1 Champions League drubbing at the hands of Liverpool from their website amid a backlash from fans.

The framed 30×11 panoramic print of a packed pre-match Ibrox ahead of the defeat was on sale to fans as a memorabilia item from the club’s official online store for £50.

It was alongside similar images of last season’s Europa League final and Ibrox tributes to the Queen and Sandy Jardine.

The scoreline against Jurgen Klopp’s English Premier League giants in October represented Rangers’ heaviest loss in any competition since the 1957 League Cup final defeat to Celtic and their heaviest ever at Ibrox.

It was also part of a campaign that eventually led to the Ibrox club recording a record low Champions League group stage points and goal difference total.

A screengrab of the item for sale was posted on social media on Monday leading to a string of supporters questioning why anyone would want to commemorate such a forgettable night for the blue side of Glasgow.

And by Tuesday the picture was nowhere to be seen on the website.

The Gers fell nine points behind Celtic with two draws and a defeat from their last five league games before the World Cup break, piling the pressure on manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst.
