Every transfer deal done before the deadline

It was a quiet day at the Emirates Stadium as the January transfer window came to a close.

The Gunners did manage to shift ex-captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who signed for Xavi’s Barcelona in a final day deal, while also signing Auston Trusty from MLS side Colorado Rapids, where he will remain on loan until the end of the Premier League season.

In his bid to secure his exit from Mikel Arteta’s side after being ostracised for his disciplinary breach in December, Aubameyang fired a final insult in Arsenal’s direction.

It rounded-off a lively January transfer window for the club, with plenty of outgoings but very few new signings coming through the door.

And it came as owner Stan Kroenke’s £725m gamble paid off.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Arsenal headlines.

Kroenke’s gamble pays off

As Arsenal were putting the final details of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s switch to Barcelona to bed, Stan Kroenke will have been rather happy.

And that is because one of his other sporting franchises were toasting their success following a huge £725m gamble.

Much like Arsenal, Kroenke’s NFL franchise the LA Rams decided that in order to progress they would need to move stadiums.

More than £4billion was splashed out on the SoFi Stadium, but after the project hit problems the owner had to take out loans from the league, which totalled £725m in order to get the project completed.

But it’s all proved worth it as the side have now reached the Super Bowl.

Arsenal’s busy window

There were 13 outgoings at the Emirates Stadium in January – but only three players came in.

After a record-spending summer transfer window that included bringing in the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White and Martin Odegaard, Mikel Arteta and Edu were unable to follow up on their previous success in the transfer market in the winter window.

Worries have been raised that the club could suffer from a lack of depth as they battle for a Champions League place next year as Arsenal missed out key targets Dusan Vlahovic and Arthur Melo.

But there was plenty of transfer business and Mirror Football has taken a look at all of the club’s deals.

Aubameyang’s final insult

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had known for a while his time at Arsenal was probably up.

The Gabon international was stripped of the club’s captaincy, left out of Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad and made to train alone following a disciplinary breach in December.

It wasn’t the first time the player had fallen foul of the club’s rules with Arteta dropping Aubameyang for the North London derby, citing “disciplinary reasons” in March 2021.

And in his urgency to secure an exit from the Emirates – Aubameyang fired a final insult towards the club.
