Tributes from celebrity chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver have been flooding Instagram since the tragic passing of Jock Zonfrillo on Sunday, however, one chef has notably remained silent.

Marco Pierre White, 61, has been slammed for choosing to ignore the death of a fellow friend and celebrity chef, instead posting a photo to Instagram holidaying with his son in Bangkok on Tuesday.

Pierre White’s followers flooded the comments, taking a stab at the British chef and television personality for the “poor timing” of his post in regard to Zonfrillo’s passing.

One user commented: “Yikes, what a poor reflection on you as a mentor, a friend and a chef that a lot of people look up to.”

“I’m shocked! This is as insensitive as it gets. What poor timing to post this,” said another.

“Maybe a little mention of Jock Zonfrillo’s sudden death would have shown some empathy towards him … just saying ????,” this comment received 45 likes on its own.

Zonfrillo and Pierre White were close friends, with Zonfrillo, in the past, revealing to news.com.au that Pierre White saved him at one of his lowest points as a homeless 17-year-old addicted to drugs.

The late chef was using heroin and had been sacked from his job at a one-Michelin-star restaurant in Chester, England after a foul-mouthed outburst.

As he was leaving the restaurant, the executive chef turned to Zonfrillo and said that he would never work in a Michelin star restaurant ever again, however, this comment made him more determined to succeed.

He walked right up to the front door of UK’s best restaurant at the time, which was on the way to gaining three Michelin stars, and run by Marco Pierre White.

The chef explained the teary story, where Pierre White gave him a job and found him a bed, despite being aware of Zonfrillo’s heavy drug use.

The pair have also appeared together on MasterChef in the past, making Pierre Whites’ absence surrounding the death of his friend unusual.
