Piers Morgan urges BBC presenter to ‘defend himself’ as pressure mounts

Piers Morgan has urged the unnamed BBC presenter accused of paying a teenager £35,000 for explicit photographs over a three-year period to come forward and defend themselves.

The 58-year-old shared his thoughts after Director General Tim Davie spoke to press for the first time about the situation today.

The BBC boss claimed that the unnamed BBC presenter wasn’t spoken to until seven weeks after the claim was made.

During his speech, he also said he had not spoken to the host involved as he claimed the allegations were initially considered to be “very serious” but not criminal when the corporation was first approached in May.

Additionally, he said the corporation has paused its investigation into the well-known unidentified star at the request of the police.

Piers has since taken to Twitter to urge the unidentified male host to speak out, as many other innocent presenters had been wrongly accused online.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter has also alleged that the accused person is a “very senior employee”.

Piers said in his tweet: “Other male presenters continue to be wrongly targeted/tarnished on social media as being the person involved. It’s an untenable situation. The presenter should name & defend himself.”

Last week, The Sun reported that a top BBC presenter had sent £35,000 to a 17-year-old, who is now 20, in exchange for explicit pictures.

The family of the person complained to the BBC on May 19 and claimed that the payments were used to fund a drugs habit.

The mother said: “When I see him on telly, I feel sick. I blame this BBC man for destroying my child’s life.

“Taking my child’s innocence and handing over the money for crack cocaine that could kill my child.”

She has also claimed her child has shown her an online bank statement that had numerous deposits from the presenter in question.

A lawyer acting on behalf of the 20-year-old has denied the allegations presented to The Sun by their mother.

They also told the BBC how the young person shut down the claims to the newspaper prior to them publishing the story on Friday night.

The Sun has since hit back saying it has “seen evidence that supports” concerns raised by the young person’s mother and that her “complaint was not acted upon by the BBC.”
