THE FIRST GAME ON THURSDAY

As The South African website reported on Thursday, the Soweto giants snatched a 1-0 victory over Tel Aviv in Marbella, Spain.

New boy Patrick Masangwanyi smashed in the only goal of the game in the 40th minute, while Sipho Chaine delivered a wonderful save on 44 minutes to secure the clean sheet.

As you would expect from the first game of pre-season, where players are far from 100% match fitness, Pirates coach Riveiro fielded two different teams in the two halves.

First half line-up:

Chaine, Monyane, Xoki, Sibisi, Mako, Monare, Makhaula, Lorch, Masangwanyi, Dlamini, Makgopa.

Second half line-up:

Mpontshane, Shandu, Mthethwa, Maela, Hotto, Timm, Baloni, Makaringe, Saleng, Otladisa and Erasmus.

Unused players: Ofori, Ndah, Mosele, Ndlondlo, Ratomo, Matrose, Pule, Nga, Motshwari, Dzvukamanja, Lepasa.
