Pirates of the Caribbean star Keira Knightley breaks silence on return

Pirates of the Caribbean fans have been patiently awaiting news on when the next swashbuckling adventure will be hitting the big screen. Everything ground to a half after Johnny Depp was dropped from the series by Disney when he was accused of domestic abuse by his ex-wife, Amber Heard. With no real news on the horizon, the actors have continued to work on new projects, including Keira Knightley, who just starred in the movie The Boston Strangler. However, she has now revealed the Pirates series is firmly not in her sights.

“It sort of launched me out of a rocket, really,” Knightley said. “As far as my career went. That year [2002] was Bend It Like Beckham, Love Actually and Pirates of the Caribbean.” She added: “So, I’m being asked about all three. Unfortunately, I was 16 and 17. So I don’t really remember very much of it, but yes, it certainly was a very big year for me.”

While Knightley was reluctant to commit to rejoining the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Orlando Bloom recently confessed he’d be “interested” in returning as Will Turner in the near future.

Bloom was quizzed about a Pirates comeback while promoting his Amazon Prime Video series Carnival Row. He explained: “Oh gosh, you know, I did get to go back and play [the Lord of the Rings character] Legolas in The Hobbit, which was ten years later. I was like: ‘This is a lot of fun!’ Because he’s such a great space to be in.

“And I think Will [Turner]—I mean Will’s so great. I wouldn’t mind seeing what Will looked like today in some ways, because he was such this earnest guy, but after rumbling around the bottom of the ocean for as long as he would have done at this point, it’d be interesting to see how he surfaces and what he’s like.”

Unfortunately for Bloom, Pirates of the Caribbean has not been mentioned by Disney for years, at this point.

And during the brief moments the franchise has been uttered by its executive producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, it has been to talk about a new-and-improved spin-off series with a brand new cast.

Margot Robbie was due to front a new female-led Pirates series, however, that has now fallen apart behind the scenes.

In recent days, Bruckheimer opened up about the slim chance of Depp making a comeback to the series, as well, as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Bruckheimer confessed he “would love” to see Depp back on deck for the sixth Pirates movie.

“We’ll see,” he said. “I would love it. I would love to have him in the movie. That’s all I can tell you.”

He also gave a brief update about the upcoming movie, saying: “We’re all working on it. We’ll see how it comes out. But we’re all very excited. I think we’re gonna have a great screenplay, and we’re getting close.”

The Pirates of the Caribbean films are available to watch on Disney Plus now.

The Boston Strangler is available to stream on Disney Plus, as well.
