The Cleveland Cavaliers are fourth in the Eastern Conference at 39-26, but on Wednesday they weren’t up to the test against the Boston Celtics. They lost 117-113 and will face Boston again next Monday. In between those two big games, they have a matchup with the Detroit Pistons today. Detroit is last in the conference at 15-48, so the Cavs are big favorites.
Detroit has lost five straight games out of the all-star break and are firmly in the running for the No. 1 pick. Let’s get into the odds.
Pistons vs. Cavaliers odds, spread and total
Pistons vs. Cavaliers prediction and pick
Donovan Mitchell had 44 points on Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough to beat the second seeded Celtics. The Cavs went all out to try and win that big game and will be looking ahead to that next matchup with Boston. Mitchell played 44 minutes Wednesday and is listed as probable with a groin injury for this one, so they could be cautious with their star tonight.
The Cavs are obviously the better team; they’re second in the league in net rating and the best defensive team with Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. Last time the Pistons faced the Cavs they were held to 85 points on 37% shooting. A lot of Detroit’s offensive options, outside of Jaden Ivey, are interior players who will have a tough time against the rim protectors of Cleveland.
However, with a big game upcoming and the Cavs off a tough loss to Cleveland, I think Detroit will be able to cover a big number in a loss.
