MISSION VIEJO — Pittsburg sophomore defensive back Jadyn Hudson was injured while making a tackle with 7:05 left in the fourth quarter of the Division 1-A state championship Saturday night at Saddleback College and removed from the field on a stretcher after more than a 30-minute delay.

Coach Victor Galli said during the delay, “He feels fine and he can move everything. He wants to get up, but we have to take precautions. We have to be safe.”

Pittsburg trailed Liberty-Bakersfield 41-20 at the time of the injury, which occurred when a player landed on Hudson’s head and neck.

Play resumed at 7:02 p.m. with Liberty in possession at its 44-yard line.

A few plays later, Liberty scored a touchdown to widen its advantage to 48-20.
