PITTSBURG — A bomb threat Thursday forced the evacuation of classes at Pittsburg High and an early dismissal for its students, officials said.
The bomb threat happened at an undisclosed time and caused a lockdown of the school.
Pittsburg Unified School District Superintendent Janet Schulze wrote in a message to parents at the school that the students were taken to the high school’s football stadium and remained there. Pittsburg police confirmed the area was a safe holding area for them, she said.
Officials had no details about the nature of the bomb threat. Police did return messages immediately.
The district cleared the students to go home after they’d been at the football field for an undisclosed amount of time, Schulze wrote.
Teachers were expected to contact the students of parents to document the release of their child, either to walk home or to be met at the parking lot adjacent to the district office in the 200 block of Railroad Avenue.
Any students whose parents could not clear them to be released were set to remain in the football stadium until the end of the school day, Schulze wrote. Students who take the bus to and from school were set to be picked up early and could leave on the bus if their parents cleared them to leave the school.
The staff remained at the school with the students in the secure location. Parents and families were asked to steer clear of the high school.
No other information was available immediately.
