The game industry continues to prove to be a rather restless and merciless one, as a restructuring of a prominent game company has just been announced. This will see the dissolving of Deep Silver, Prime Matter, and Ravenscourt into the larger publishing label Plaion as part of a restructure that aims to produce fewer titles at a higher quality. Whether or not this goal will be met in the coming years is yet to be seen, but it still will mean that there will be layoffs.
At the very least, the layoffs will not be as bad as they seem. Gamesindustry.biz reached out to Plaion regarding this upcoming move, and a representative from the company stated that the restructuring would only affect around five to six jobs. It was also clarified that the restructuring is part of simplifying Plaion’s publishing operations.
For those not aware, Plaion is the rebrand that Koch Media took last year. The restructure will see Deep Silver, Prime Matter, and Ravenscourt become part of one publishing label. The company representative that spoke to Gamesindustry emphasized that this is not an immediate change but part of a process that will take up to twelve months. The aforementioned three labels may still publish some titles over the next couple of years. So, this process is expected to be slow.
The more widely known of the three labels is Deep Silver, which is responsible for handling franchises such as Saints Row, Metro, and Dead Island. Prime Matter is another important asset as they currently are developing a plethora of titles, such as the Nintendo Switch version of Kingdom Come Deliverance. You may have heard about them in our coverage recently, as they are in charge of publishing the upcoming System Shock remake.
Plaion’s new plans for the three publishing labels will be built around four pillars: Games Portfolio and Business, Publishing Services, Global Sales & Marketing, and Distribution Partnership. We’ll continue to cover games published by Plaion and its subsidiaries in the future. So, stay tuned.
