Polestar? For many, it’s still an unknown automaker. However, for those who follow the industry, especially when it comes to EVs, the small Chinese-owned Swedish car company is growing in relevance and desirability almost every day.

So far, the Polestar 2 has proven to be a worthy and interesting alternative to Tesla which bodes well for the upcoming and very attractive Polestar 3. Both of these vehicles are, like their Volvo cousins, unique and special. Part of the intrigue, beyond the performance and range, is the brand’s signature design language which so far has not faltered. While we continue to await the unveiling of the new Polestar 4 SUV coupe, we now have spy images for the next-in-line Polestar 5 sedan.

The 4-door Polestar Precept electric concept car was unveiled on February 25, 2020, and its influence is immediately noticeable. Up front, the split headlights’ overall outline is visible and includes the same small round projector lamps that were seen on the car that was shown at last summer’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. The thin rear taillamps, along with the horizontal light bar, are also evident as are the hatch’s cut-out lines. Interestingly, a small upright spoiler can be seen near the base of the hatch but based on the spy images, it looks more like a testing add-on than a production element.

The Polestar 5’s general profile is not entirely unlike that of the Polestar 2 although it is certainly sleeker and with far less blunt front and rear tips. What are we saying? It’s beautiful. However, unlike the Precept concept, it will feature conventional doors and not rear suicide doors.

In order, it is expected that the automaker will unveil the Polestar 4 between now and later next fall when the Polestar 3 hits the road. The Polestar 5 should officially break cover this year and go on sale in 2024. Preliminary specs include dual electric motors and an 800-volt, 100-kWh battery pack for speedy charging and a range of approximately 300 miles.
