NEW YORK — A teenager died Saturday after being stabbed on a 1 train platform in Hamilton Heights.
This comes after at least two other stabbings in recent days.
As CBS2’s Alecia Reid reports, another life has been lost in what neighbors are calling a senseless act of violence.
“It’s too much and too often,” West Harlem resident Giovanni Pacheco said.
The stabbing happened around 3 p.m. inside the 137th Street-City College station on the northbound platform.
One witness, who did not want to be identified, says three teenage girls were trying to rob a 14-year-old boy when things escalated.
“There were girls. There were three little girls. There was one with the green that I, that’s one that did the stabbing, and there were two young kids, maybe like 13 or 14, too. They wanted to take his phone,” the witness said.
Police say the 14-year-old boy was stabbed once in the stomach. EMS arrived quickly, but it was too late.
“When they were bringing him up, he was dead. His head tilt back, his eyes were rolled back to the white, and purple, his lips were purple, purple. He was dead,” the witness said.
So far, there have been no arrests, but police say they do have an idea of who they’re looking for.
MTA NYC Transit President Richard Davey released a statement saying, “This senseless and tragic incident is awful. We are cooperating with the NYPD investigation that remains in its early stages.”
This comes on the heels of other deadly stabbings.
On Saturday morning, 54-year-old James Santana died after being stabbed in the chest following an argument in the Bronx, and on Wednesday, 30-year-old Jorge Valentin was stabbed to death.
Suspects in both of those incidents are still at large.
Due to the investigation, there are service delays on the 1 line in both directions and the 137th Street-City College station remains closed.
Shuttle buses are being offered between 242nd and 96th streets in both directions.
