A 16-year-old girl was recovering in the hospital Wednesday after being repeatedly stabbed by a teen boy in Montclair, authorities said.
Around 3:30 p.m., the victim was walking home from school in the 4700 block of San Bernardino Street when the suspect, also 16, approached her from behind before stabbing her in the back of the head with a fixed-blade knife, police said. The girl turned around, and the boy stabbed her several more times before witnesses stopped and detained the suspect until officers arrived.
Both are students at Montclair High School, according to police.
The girl was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries
Information on the motive for the attack, if known, wasn’t immediately available.
The suspect was arrested and was being held at the San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall on one count of attempted murder.
Anyone with information on the stabbing was urged to contact the Montclair Police Department at (909) 621-4771.
