PIEDMONT — Police are searching for a “person of interest” in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old Piedmont High School boy.
Piedmont police said they received a report that the alleged incident occurred near the campus’ Binks Rawlings Gymnasium between 3:30 and 4 p.m. Thursday.
Police Captain Chris Monahan said Saturday the department heard directly from the victim and a family member who described what happened, but he did not share more details of the assault.
“This case involves a minor, so it’s very sensitive,” Monahan said.
He added that police notified the Piedmont Unified School District, which is collaborating in the investigation.
“This is a very alarming situation that will be investigated fully, both in cooperation with the Piedmont PD and internally, to ensure we are providing a safe environment for our students, staff and all visitors to our campuses,” district Superintendent Randall Booker wrote in a letter to the community Friday.
“We will be providing extra supervision on campuses during passing periods and meal times, as well as after-school,” he added.
Police described the person of interest as a Hispanic woman between 30 and 40 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 110-120 pounds with long black curly hair tied up, and wearing a short-sleeved pink shirt, black sweat pants, tennis shoes, a hoop nose ring and square sunglasses based on information from a surveillance video they received from the district.
“The case is under investigation,” Monahan said. “We’re looking actively for that person.”
