Porsche Enhances PCM 6.0 Infotainment Interface

Porsche has updated its infotainment system with new features to make it more versatile, more intuitive, and more intelligent, says the German automaker. Porsche Communication Management (PCM) 6.0 is the current version of the interface, which is standard in the 911, Taycan, Cayenne and Panamera models.

According to Porsche, the upgrades “include direct integration of Spotify as a media source for the first time, a revised interface design, additional optimization of Voice Pilot voice assistant, wireless Android Auto connection and – specifically for the Taycan – improvements for planning charging stops.”

At the suggestion of its customers, Porsche has also optimized PCM with new colored icons to make the user interface easier to use and recognize. Other improvements enhance Voice Pilot — the integrated voice assistant — and direct integration of Spotify, for music.

Spotify Enhancements for PCM 6.0

“Spotify Premium customers can link their account to the vehicle using their Porsche ID and use Spotify as an additional media source,” says the automaker. “The vehicle accesses the streaming service provider directly without having to use a smartphone. Through this new integration, drivers will have instant access to more than 70 million songs and 3.2 million podcasts right at their fingertips – all required data is included in Porsche Connect. The app also displays the Like function, all saved playlists and the new Go to Radio option, which looks for a piece of music similar to the one currently playing.”

The all-electric Taycan model will see special and unique enhancements. “With electric cars, efficient route planning is a key element to road tripping,” explains Porsche. “That is why Porsche has improved the calculation of charging sessions in the Charging Planner. The optimized algorithm prioritizes to a greater extent charging stations which offer a higher energy output (150 kW and up) and plans charging stops more efficiently. These improvements are also based on customer feedback. Additionally, the Charging Planner now also takes into account the time required to start and end the charging process at the charging station when calculating the total driving time. Together, these measures make for a further improved charging experience.” A new dynamic zoom feature gives operators and occupants a better picture of available charging stations, and charging points may now be sorted by output.

Porsche is expected to roll out the new enhancements for PCM 6.0 in the next several weeks.
