Diogo Costa says he hopes to remain at Porto after being linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.
United have agreed a contract extension with David de Gea, whose deal is due to expire at the end of the month, but the Spaniard has come under fire after several below-par performances this season.
Costa, who came through Porto’s academy before making his first-team debut in 2019, is among the goalkeepers on United’s radar, with his impressive distribution
When asked directly about a possible move to United after Porto’s Portuguese Cup on Sunday, Costa replied: ‘That’s the internet.’
Costa then added: ‘It is a happiness and an honour to play for my favourite club.
‘What they say is what they say, there is nothing concrete, I have a contract until 2027 and I hope to continue, let’s see.’
Meanwhile, former United captain Roy Keane urged the club to replace De Gea after his failure to stop Ilkay Gundogan’s second goal in Manchester City’s 2-1 win in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
‘They need a new goalkeeper and world-class striker, I’m sick of saying it!’ Keane told ITV.
‘De Gea’s not good enough, he is not going to be the one to take United back to winning trophies.’
However, Erik ten Hag defended De Gea in the wake of United’s FA Cup final defeat.
‘In this moment, I don’t want to talk about such issues of criticism because we played all a great season, including David De Gea, he played a fantastic season,’ the United manager said.
