P&O Cruises has revealed that its upcoming new cruise ship Arvia will feature a thrilling new escape room for passengers, when she first sets sail in December 2022.
The multi-sensory experience, called ‘Mission Control’, is a contender for epic things you can do on cruises, with plenty of challenging live-action puzzles for guests including plot twists and extra surprises that involve motion simulation.
Passengers will be invited on an ‘expedition’ on board fictional submarine Arvia II with ‘Dr Ryan’, with plenty of challenges and puzzles along the way. The cruise line has also said that there will be multiple storylines, suitable for all ages.
P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: “Holidays are all about new experiences and the immersive escape room will create unforgettable action-packed moments with family and friends.
“Mission Control will expand our on board entertainment offering even further, giving guests an opportunity to create unique bonding experiences they will talk about for years to come.”
Arvia is currently being built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, but she is due to sail on a maiden voyage to the Canary Islands in December 2022.
Boasting a gross tonnage of 184,700, the ship will offer over 20 restaurants, a huge pool, and the SkyDome area with a retractable roof. SkyDome will serve as a pool by day, but come nighttime it will double up as an entertainment venue hosting everything from aerial performances to theatre shows.
Thrill-seekers will also be spoiled for choice with activities courtesy of the sports arena, minigolf course, and even an ‘Altitude Skywalk’, a high ropes experience above the ship’s top deck that’s definitely not for the faint-hearted.
For those who are looking for something a little less adrenaline-inducing, the swim-up bar, infinity pool and Oasis spa may appeal more.
Other highlights will also include new restaurant Green & Co featuring Mizuhana serving a plant and fish-led menu, an Ocean Studios cinema, 1,300sqm of shops for those looking to indulge with a spot of retail therapy.
Arvia is the sister ship to Iona, who joined the P&O fleet earlier this year complete with a SkyDome, FOUR swimming pools, over 30 bars and restaurants, and an onboard gin distillery.
Want to be onboard the maiden voyage? Prices start from £1,449pp for the 14-night sailing, which includes kids’ clubs, full board meals and your entertainment. The ship will sail on a roundtrip from Southampton with ports of call in Madeira, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Cadiz and Lisbon.
