Based on all of the reporting out there, it seems to be a matter of when, not if, Damian Lillard is traded to the Miami Heat.
That “when” could take a while, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. During an appearance on SportsCenter Tuesday, Woj said the Blazers are in “no rush” to trade the perennial All-Star point guard.
“Damian Lillard wants to be in Miami. Portland looks at what Miami has to offer them in a trade: draft picks, young players, assets. It doesn’t enthrall them,” Wojnarowski said. “So what is incumbent on Portland now is to go out on the marketplace and find someone who will offer them more, and that’s what they’re trying to do right now.”
Woj added that “it’s going to take some time for this marketplace to develop” and joked that “we could be doing this ‘til Labor Day.”
It has been widely reported that the Heat are the “only” team Lillard wants to play for.
We’ll see how long it takes for that to become reality.
