Potter may get Premier League lifeline as Ratcliffe rivalled after Chelsea axe

Crystal Palace have reportedly talked to former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, with the club ‘absolutely’ keen on his credentials. The 48-year-old’s reputation took a major blow at Stamford Bridge and the ex-Swansea boss will be keen to ensure the next step in his career is the right one.

Palace looked destined to be involved in a relegation battle earlier this season, with their progress becoming stagnated under Patrick Vieira and key players no longer appearing enthused. The club opted to part ways with the Frenchman and bring in the more ‘tried and trusted’ Roy Hodgson on a short-term deal.

The veteran boss has been a revelation upon his return to Selhurst Park, prompting speculation that he may extend his stay at the club. Though the former Watford boss has refused to fuel the fire in press conferences, content with departing if the time is right.

According to Foot Mercato, Palace have identified Potter as a potential successor to Hodgson and held talks with the former Blues boss. The London side are looking for a manager that ‘represents the future’ and feel that Potter ticks a lot of boxes.

It remains unclear as to whether the manager is keen on the vacancy, with Ligue 1 outfit Nice previously being linked with Potter. Leicester and Tottenham have also been mooted as potential destinations, though reports in France have suggested that Nice have identified the tactician as their top target.

The French club are owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is one of the two leading candidates to purchase Manchester United. Therefore, if the INEOS owner’s bid – which includes a clause that could see Avram and Joel Glazer retain their shares – is successful then it is likely that the two clubs could work coherently, with young talents being loaned out to Nice.
