Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin received devastating news over the weekend. His 2-year-old grandson, Jayce, passed away in Urbana, Illinois.

Griffin’s grandson was reportedly found unresponsive in a home this past Saturday.

The Champaign County coroner said the preliminary results from Jayce’s autopsy showed “no evidence of trauma nor foul play.” As a result, the belief is he passed away from natural causes.

According to reports, the Champaign Police Department will review this incident as part of its standard procedure.

Griffin released a statement Monday on the passing of his grandson.

“My grandson Jayce was very special to me and my family and his passing is an agonizing tragedy that will be felt forever,” he said. “I appreciate your respecting our family’s grief and privacy at this time.”

Basketball fans around the country are sending their thoughts and prayers to the Griffin family this week.

“Bro this is just brutal,” a fan tweeted. “Prayers go to coach Griff and Alan. Man this is crazy.”

Another fan said, “No way man sad stuff. Prayers for Adrian Griffin and his family.”

There are just no words that can properly heal a wound like this.

Our thoughts are with Griffin’s family during this difficult time.
