The new Predator movie has arrived on Hulu, introducing a new nemesis for the Predator in the form of Amber Midthunder. In Prey, the fifth installment of the Predator movie series, Midthunder stars as Naru, a Comanche woman in 1719 who becomes one of the Predator’s first human targets. It’s clear from the social media response following the film’s release on Hulu that people by and large are very much enjoying Midthunder’s introduction into the franchise with her performance as Naru.
“Naru is easily one of the best new protagonists in the Predator franchise,” one new fan of Midthunder’s says on Twitter. “Amber Midthunder deserves ALL the awards for bringing such an astounding journey to life in such an interesting way.”
Another tweet reads, “HIGHLY RECOMMEND watching the new Prey movie, Amber Midthunder really stuns in this movie and it has many clever action sequences with a satisfying climax. So good!!”
“PREY is by far one of the best movies I’ve seen this year,” says another fan. “The cinematography, sound design & score were all incredible. This movie fully embraces the Comanche and shows their warrior essence perfectly. Amber Midthunder was amazing and I really hope she gets more recognition.”
One fan wrote, “Best Predator film since the original hands down. This was so damn good. It’s a shame it didn’t get a theatrical release. Amber Midthunder was so amazing as Naru.”
“Finished watching Prey and wow,” says someone else. “Amber Midthunder definitely shines. Honestly loved everything about this movie.”
Amber Midthunder Is the Newest Action Star
Prey is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison. The film stars Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Michelle Thrush, Stormee Kipp, Julian Black Antelope, and Dane DiLiegro. Its story follows a Comanche tribe coming under attack by a highly advanced predator hunting humans for sport. Midthunder has also spoken out about how proud she is of the representation that she brings to the franchise.
“I have been very intentional about not doing a lot of like Indigenous specific roles,” Midthunder recently told THR. “You very rarely get good representation. Good being accurate, respectful or something to be proud about. You very rarely get good representation — good being accurate, respectful or something to be proud about.”
Noting how Prey was different, Midthunder added, “This is the first time you get to see an Indigenous female action hero at the center of a film. That in and of itself is a really incredible statement.”
Prey is now streaming on Hulu. You can see some more fan reactions to the film along with Midthunder’s performance below.
