Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium was evacuated on Monday after an “unidentified object” was found on the pitch. At 1.31pm police were called to carry out investigations at the venue following its discovery.

The enquiry concluded that the item was related to training conducted at the grounds during the weekend. A statement from Dorset Police read: “At 1.31pm on Monday 24 July 2023 Dorset Police received a report of an unidentified item having been found at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth.

“Following enquiries, it was established that the item was related to some training conducted at the grounds during the weekend.”

The Bournemouth Echo claims that safety training was undertaken at the stadium on Sunday and that a fake device had not been taken away by mistake. It is understood that police were simply called for precautionary measures and that everyone was allowed back inside after ten minutes.

Bournemouth are set to play their second game of pre-season against local rival Southampton away from home on Tuesday. They kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Tel Aviv earlier this month.

Last season, the Cherries lifted themselves from the foot of the Premier League table to finish 15th ahead of Nottingham Forest, Everton, Leicester City, Leeds and Southampton.

Heading into next season, Bournemouth have appointed Andoni Iraola as their new manager after axing Gary O’Neil. Iraola was free to take charge after leaving Rayo Vallecano at the end of the season.

O’Neil was dismissed despite steering Bournemouth to Premier League safety following Scott Parker’s departure. The decision was reportedly made due to the club looking to go in a new direction in terms of their style of play.
