Premiere: Bristol Rhymer Blacksmith Connects With Statik Selektah & Skinnyman On “Price Of Love”

Bristol’s Blacksmith has gone all out for his latest single, colliding with rap royalty from both sides of the Atlantic. “Price Of Love” was produced by New York heavyweight Statik Selektah and features a very rare appearance from UK rap pioneer Skinnyman.

Clearly well-versed in his rap history, Blacksmith has made sure to invoke all sorts of classic rap tropes from the canon. Statik’s production, first and foremost, had a decidedly New York flavour with its twinkling keys and punchy, boom bap drums. Meanwhile, Blacksmith and Skinnyman’s tough-talking exchange is mostly UK hip-hop, but they mix in quite a bit of conscious rhyming as they swap lines about the sacrifices and hard work we endure in the name of love, both romantic and otherwise.

Speaking in greater detail about that, Blacksmith explains: “Price Of Love as a song talks about the amount of work that goes into trying to make anything you love or are passionate about work, even when it feels like it won’t. Whether that be chasing dreams and all the uncertainty that comes with the highs and low, to working on relationships with others or even internal work with yourself—what are you willing to do to live the life you would love?”
