Martin Roberts fights back tears as he returns to work

Martin Roberts made an emotional return to Homes Under The Hammer on Tuesday after undergoing emergency heart surgery.

The presenter was rushed to hospital last month with ‘hours to live’ after experiencing pains in his chest.

After being told there was “a massive amount of fluid” surrounding his heart, the 58-year old had the life-saving op before being discharged a week later.

The star took to his Instagram account earlier to share a video message announcing his comeback.

“So I’ve got some news and it’s actually pretty amazing news,” he began.

“Today is a very special day, it’s quite an emotional one to be honest because I’ve spoken to the doctors and they’ve said as long as I take it easy I’m ok to start work.

Martin Roberts was clearly emotional after making his return

“So I am back today filming Homes Under The Hammer.”

Clearly overcome with emotion, the presenter continued: “I’m in the valleys of Wales, I never thought I’d be so happy.”

Martin captioned his post with “It’s a VERY special day… so I decided I should wear a VERY bright shirt to celebrate.”

The video was met with delight by his 20,000 followers, with co-presenter Lucy Alexander writing: “Lol I NEVER thought you’d be so happy kissing bricks. Oh how we luv [sic] a two up two down in Wales.”

One user added: “Love the shirt. Glad you are doing so well. Take Care.”

Another said: “Brilliant news my lovely. Looking forward to seeing you and your technicoloured shirt on Homes Under the Hammer. Take care, don’t over do things.”

Recalling his brush from death, Martin explained how it had forced him to change his life and how he was lucky to still be alive.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: “I like being on the go, I’ve been presenting Homes Under The Hammer for 19 years and I’m determined to make it to 20, next May.

“There are still so many things I want to achieve, but I know I have to take things slowly from now on.”
