In New York City, Pride Month’s final weekend was marked, as ever, by all kinds of joyful goings-on. They began on Friday evening, when the 29th annual Drag March stretched from Tompkins Square Park to the Stonewall Inn, and continued on Saturday, when the 31st annual Dyke March streamed from Midtown Manhattan to Greenwich Village. Photographer Ryan McGinley was on the ground at both, capturing the crowds, the colors, and the spirit of resistance as participants turned looks and wielded signs. (While marchers on Friday raised their voices again the drag bans being threatened across the country, at the Dyke March—which coincided with the one-year anniversary of the fall of Roe v. Wade—the theme was bodily autonomy, and one banner aptly read: “Not your fucking body, not your fucking business.”) Follow the action through his lens.
