Prime Video Series The Bondsman to Star Kevin Bacon as a Resurrected Bounty Hunter

Veteran actor Kevin Bacon has just landed his next starring role. Variety reports that Bacon has been cast in the Blumhouse Television series The Bondsman, a new show that’s been ordered straight to series for a streaming release on Prime Video. Per the logline, Bacon will play Hub Halloran, a “backwoods bounty hunter who comes back from the dead with an unexpected second chance at life, love, and a nearly-forgotten musical career — only to find that his old job now has a demonic new twist.”

Reportedly, the concept of The Bondsman comes from Grainger David, who penned the script. Erik Oleson is also on board as showrunner. Along with starring in the lead role, Bacon is also serving as an executive producer. Other executive producers include David, CrimeThink’s Oleson and Paul Shapiro, and Blumhouse Television’s Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold, and Chris Dickie.

Bacon previously starred in the Prime Video series I Love Dick, which, despite its awesome title, was canceled after a single season. During its brief run, the show did manage to earn Bacon a Golden Globe nomination. He also recently starred in the Showtime series City on a Hill and previously led the hit Fox show The Following. The actor recently appeared in movies like Space Oddity and They/Them, and he has significant roles in the upcoming films The Toxic Avenger, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, and MaXXXine.

Bacon has long been a favorite for fans of the horror genre. He launched his film career with a memorable role in the original Friday the 13th film, and he first Tremors movie, which is the only to feature Bacon, also has a large cult following. He’s also appeared in films like The Darkness, Hollow Man, Stir of Echoes, and Flatliners. Robert Englund has even endorsed Bacon as the next Freddy Krueger because of how well the actor excels in the genre.

“I’m a fan myself. I’m a consumer of it. If a new horror film piques my interest, I’m front and center opening weekend,” Bacon told Looper about the horror genre. “I like the experience, because when I go to a movie as a … consumer, I want to feel things. Whatever it is, I want to feel things deeply. You can feel sad. You can get tears coming out of your eyes. You can laugh hysterically. You can jump. You can get scared. You can get creeped out. You can walk out of the theater with an uneasy feeling. These are feelings, and I like that.”

He added, “I like to do horror because the stakes are very high, and that means that there’s good stuff to play. In life and death situations, those are good things to play.“

A premiere date hasn’t yet been set for The Bondsman at Prime Video. The show’s freshman season will consist of eight half-hour episodes. Production will not begin until after the writers strike officially ends.
