Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised their dear friend Elton John during his most recent performance by sending a special video message to the music icon.

Ahead of the singer’s concert at Dodger Stadium on Sunday night, which was recorded for Disney+, fans were treated to a video clip of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in which they thank Elton for entertaining the world for all of these years and congratulate him on all his accomplishments. On a personal note, Harry also thanked the musician for being such a good friend to his late mother Princess Diana, as well as his two children, Archie and Lilibet.

Meghan began the message, “Hi Elton, we just wanted to say congratulations.” Harry also added a “congratulations” of his own, before his wife continued, “And we are just so proud of you. We’re so grateful that we were able to see you on your farewell tour also.” Prince Harry then noted, “And thank you for entertaining everybody for so many decades. Thank you for being the friend that you were for my mum, thank you for being our friend. Thank you for being friend to our kids and thank you for entertaining people right around the world.”

He concluded: “Even though this is officially your retirement, this will not be your last gig, we know that. But we love you and congratulations on an incredible career.” Elton performed at Meghan and Harry’s wedding at Windsor Castle in 2018, and also invited them to join him at his home in the South of France the following year. The storied musician was also beloved by the late Queen Elizabeth who invited him to play as part of the concert for her Platinum Jubilee this summer.

The Sussexes weren’t the only stars who shared their well wishes with the singer as he heads into retirement. President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden also congratulated Elton on his incredible career, as did Tony Bennett. President Biden thanked the Grammy winner on behalf of the American people for his advocacy and fundraising for AIDS and HIV via his charity. Biden said that he is one of the “greatest of all time,” and “not just because of your iconic songs, [but] because of your absolute courage. You turned pain into purpose and your advocacy has literally saved millions of lives.” Dr. Biden added, “Elton, as you close this chapter of your story, I hope you know that your legacy has no end. From the timeless songs that have given voice to our joys and sorrows to how you’ve inspired countless people to stand up and speak out. You will always be here on our playlist and in our hearts.”
