Prince Harry is expected to be the star of Nelson Mandela Day at the United Nations next week, where he will give a keynote address to the organization’s General Assembly.
But otherwise, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II has also taken on the role of househusband who apparently works his daily schedule around the the professional aspirations of his wife, Meghan Markle, according to a new report in Closer magazine. The report also said that the couple’s neighbors in Santa Barbara County have begun calling the former Hollywood TV actress “the Princess of Montecito” because of the way they say she expects to be catered to at local restaurants.
The report said that the Duchess of Sussex calls ahead to upscale restaurants in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles or Montecito to make sure she gets a table that is “completely secluded.” However, the Daily Beast said that such dining requests are pretty standard behavior for high-profile celebrities, suggesting that Meghan isn’t being any more than demanding that any of her famous friends, including Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres or Serena Williams.
But it appears that Harry likes accommodating Meghan’s needs, according to the Closer article. Perhaps Harry, whom Meghan described as a feminist, simply likes being a supportive spouse and devoting himself to domestic responsibilities.
“He’s up at the crack of dawn getting the kids fed, washed and dressed,” a source told Closer magazine. “Meghan’s often very busy on business Zoom calls, or nipping into L.A. for meetings, which Harry often chauffeurs her to. Then he’s back to the kids as soon as possible because he doesn’t like leaving them with nannies.”
Closer doesn’t specify with whom Meghan is meeting on her Zoom calls or during her L.A. business trips. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are supposed to be making good on their multimillion-dollar contracts to deliver content to Netflix and Spotify.
The Sussexes have been working on a Netflix documentary series about their life in California, which began after they stepped back from royal life in 2020, according to Page Six and other outlets. Fans of the Sussexes also are looking forward to Meghan finally releasing her long-awaited podcast episodes for Spotify.
More than a year after the Sussexes dropped a single, 24-minute episode in December 2020, Meghan teased the upcoming release of “Archetypes,” a podcast series that explores stereotypes that “hold women back” in society. However, no release date has been announced.
Meanwhile, as much as Harry has reportedly dedicated himself to being his wife’s chauffeur and a hands-on father to their children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet Diana, 1, he could also be involved in final edits for his ghost-written memoir.
But like “Archetypes,” Harry’s memoir has no official release date, although Penguin Random House originally said it would be published sometime this fall, the Daily Beast also reported.
But Harry definitely put in some hours recently for other work outside the home. He recently recorded a series of interviews for the San Francisco-based mental health startup BetterUp, Yahoo reported. A newly released video for BetterUp shows Harry, who serves as the company’s chief impact officer, chatting with Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim and others about the importance of “mental fitness” in every day life.
“We all have greatness within us,” Harry said in the short video for BetterUp. “Mental fitness helps us unlock it. It’s an ongoing practice, one where you approach your mind as something to flex, not fix.”
Meghan also appears to devote time to her mental fitness and personal happiness, according to the Closer report. The one-time lifestyle and food blogger likes to eat well, particularly at celebrity hangouts like Cecconi’s, Sunset Tower, Sugarfish, or Lucky’s Steakhouse in Montecito, Closer reported. She also enjoys female bonding at the estate of Winfrey, her Montecito neighbor.
“She spends a fair amount of time at Oprah’s palatial house, where they’ll kick back with her closest friend, Gayle King, and talk about everything from Meghan’s future plans to what’s going on back in the U.K. and how Harry’s coping with everything,” a source told Closer.
The source also said that Meghan likes to take the couple’s dogs out to hike in the hills around Montecito or Los Angeles. “Often she’ll head off just herself and the dogs, which gives her time to reflect,” the source concluded.
